I read the first edition a million years ago when staying in the UK as an exchange student. I was totally smitten and the people I stayed with were cross with me because I had my nose in the book all the time. From then on I read it during every holiday and was looking forward to the 1,000 pages with anticipation all year long. My then issue was printed on very thin paper so that you had to be very careful with it. Unfortunately it got damaged during my last moving house. I tried the German version as I really missed it. It does not come up to the original al all. The sophistication, the subtle irony, the stunning perfidy, the lovingly described details get all lost. German is just not a fitting language for this book - it is too bland. Try the original even if it is a bit harder, it gets more easy on the way (there and back again). Even though Tolkien started to write it as a children's book for his son, it very easily and smoothly evolves into an epic for grown-ups. It is hard to put it into a category: It is neither SF, nor adventure-story nor good old "good over evil-triumph"-story, it is "just" a damned good story, beautifully written with terrific love/hate protagonists although it never slides into a black/white world. It is a mus-read and I promise you that you will not be able to put it down after having started.

Zum Inhalt sag ich erst gar nichts. Wer die Geschichte noch nicht kennt sollte ohne zu überlegen zuschlagen und sich von Tolkien verzaubern lassen.Ich besaß die Geschichte bereits und mein Reiz lag allein in der Originalsprache. Besonders am Anfang ist es dabei etwas zäh die Auenlandbeschreibungen zu lesen, da man sich jetzt noch durch Tolkiens Englisch lesen muss. Tolkien greift dabei auf einen sehr großen Wortschatz mit teils altertümlichen Begriffen zurück. Die Sprache wird noch der Person bzw. den Regionen angepasst. Und somit merkt man schnell, dass es so noch mehr Spaß macht. Man muss sich halt an das Englisch gewöhnen, was definitiv nichts für Anfänger ist, aber dann würde man am liebsten ohne Unterbrechung lesen.Zu den Büchern selbst lässt sich noch sagen, dass sie sowohl von außen als auch von innen sehr schön und sehr edel wirken. Zu den Coverbildern liegt auch immer eine Beschreibung bei.

Martin bringt es auf den Punkt."Der Herr der Ringe" ist eine Geschichte, die mit Geschichte gefüllt ist; wenn manchmal nur beiläufig der Name einer Figur oder einer Schlacht erwähnt wird, dann ist es nicht einfach aus der Luft gegriffen um künstliche Tiefe zu erzeugen, Tolkien hat tatsächlich einen Hintergrund für all diese Dinge geschrieben. Wenn man eine Zeile auf Elbisch liest, dann bedeuten die Worte wirklich etwas. Mittelerde ist lebendig und fühlt sich echt an. Es ist eine Welt, die mit viel Hingabe und Liebe zum Detail erschaffen wurde, und das merkt man beim lesen auch.Tolkien hat das Fantasy-Genre nicht erfunden, er hat es aber von allen Autoren am meisten geprägt. Das Genre ist heute sehr groß, doch der "Herr der Ringe" ist der Grund weshalb es so groß ist.Wie alle Bücher in der Deluxe Edition, so ist auch dies eine sehr schöne Ausgabe. Der Einband ist fest und gut gestaltet, in einem hellgrauen Karton, weinrotem Papier und goldener Schrift; dazu kommt ein fester Schuber.

Nachdem ich nun mehrere Male die deutsche Übersetzung gelesen habe, habe ich mich an das Original heran getraut. Vorteilhaft war hierbei für mich, dass ich beim Lesen oft den deutschen Text bereits vor Augen hatte, was mir - bei meinen mäßigen Englischkenntnissen - deutlich bei der englischen Version half.Ich habe es nicht für möglich gehalten: Der Roman ist im Original noch deutlich besser als in der Übersetzung. Ein absolutes Muss für jeden Fan!

Ich kenne den Herrn der Ringe, seitdem es ihn in Deutschland gab; ich wollte jetzt gern eine Version des Buches auf meinem Kindl haben - ich lese diese Bücher nur noch im Original -, damit ich nicht immer einen dicken Schinken mit mir herumtragen muß. Ich bin ein großer Fan vom Herrn der Ringe und kann den mehr oder weniger auswendig. Am jetzigen gefällt mir das schöne Englisch.

I love this tale, it starts in my childhood and as long as I can breath it will be like that. The lord of the rings in one of that books which guides you through the storms of life. I never could understand why some critics describes this book as an escapistic one. It never lets me escape, but until now, it guides me and teaches me (of course, not only this book...) The sense of honor, even, no - especially to an enemy, the braveness in a hopeless situation, trust in faith, in friendship - it all shaped my own view to the world, printed my scale.. on so many levels, the love for languages as well as linguistics and well told stories are only few of them... the story has been summoned over and over here, so I just want to declare my love for this outstanding timeless masterpiece, in the hope that many many other kids may follow this path and also find their own guide through the wirlwinds of life...and find condolence and hope, maybe!

I recently read Rupi Kaur's first book, Milk and Honey, while going through a tough time in my relationship. Re-reading Milk and Honey helped me through the breakup and the pain of being ghosted, not communicated with, left behind. Almost as soon as I learned Sun and her Flowers existed, I ordered it, and it has once again watered my roots and made me grateful for my self and my life. I feel like I found Rupi Kaur's work at the perfect point in my life, just as I needed it, but really so much of life is loss and learning that maybe any time is the right time. I hope you get as much joy from this book as I did.

Es ist so verdammt gut. Die Poems sind so wunderschön und kreativ geschrieben. Die Gestaltung ist ein Traum. Eines meiner absoluten Lieblingsbücher 2017!

Bestes Buch aller Zeiten. Nach Honey and Milk konnte ich es kaum erwarten es zu lesen und hatte es nach 1-2h durch und ich bin begeistert😍

Ich liebe Rupi Kaur's Bücher.. Habe das Buch bestellt, nachdem ich Milk and Honey zu Ende gelesen habe..Dieses Buch hat mir eine innere Ruhe gegeben, beim Lesen war ich in einer anderen Welt..Ich kann dieses Buch jedem empfehlen.

Ich habe bereits milk and honey gelesen und war begeistert. Leider konnte mich the sun and her flowers nicht so sehr mitreißen. Der Start war ganz gut, aber dann waren mir die Themen "Flucht, Mutter, Vater, Einreise" doch etwas zu viel und irgendwie auch unpassend für das Buch. Laut der Beschreibung dachte ich, dass es ums "Aufblühen" geht. Aber bis fast zum Ende war alles sehr depressiv.

Zum Buch an sich kann ich noch nichts sagen. Der Versand erfolgte wie erwartet schnell. Allerdings bin ich sehr enttäuscht vom Zustand des Buches. Ich habe mich extra für die teurere Hardcover-Ausgabe entschieden, die sogar als Geschenk-Ausgabe betitelt wird. Verschenken würde ich es in keinem Fall! Der Einband ist von außen stark verschmutzt, fleckig, staubig und weist viele Kratzer auf. Sehr schade, wenn man bedenkt, dass ich ein neues Buch bestellt habe.

Rupi Kaur hat es mit diesem Bestseller geschafft ganz viel Gefühl auf Papier zu bringen. Jeder der auf diese Art von Buch und Text steht sollte es sich bestellen und in seinen Gedanken versinken.

Sehr schönes Buch, ich liebe ihre Texte! Nur leider ist das Material vom Buch nicht so toll. Ich hatte es im Urlaub in meiner Tasche und es ist wohl etwas dreckig geworden.. und da das Buch nicht beschichtet worden ist, kann man das leider nicht abwischen :( habe es versucht, dadurch ist es nur schlimmer geworden und der „Stoff“ hat sich aufgerubbelt, sehr schade finde ich..
